QUETTA, 11 September: At least four people belonging to the ethnic Hazara community were killed and two other injured as unidentified gunmen opened fire on a vehicle in Kuchlak area of Balochistan, police said.
According to police officials, members of the Hazara community, who were travelling from Chaman to Quetta, stopped their vehicle for refueling at a petrol station in Jalogir area on the Quetta-Chaman road. In the meantime, two unidentified gunmen came on a motorcycle and opened indiscriminate fire on them, killing three people on the spot and injuring three others. The injured people were rushed to the Civil Hospital while the bodies of the deceased were sent to the Combined Military Hospital. One of the injured persons succumbed to wounds in the hospital.
Police officials said that the incident seemed to be an act of targeted killing. Police and other law enforcement agencies personnel reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sanaullah Zehri strongly condemned the incident and directed the concerned authorities to arrest the perpetrators at the earliest.
Terror activities particularly targeted killings of the Hazara community have been taking place in Balochistan over the past few years. According to sources, it was the third such incident in which the members of the Hazara ethnic community have been targeted in 2017.
