MIRANSHAH: Four people were killed when armed men opened fire at their vehicle in Mir Ali area of North Waziristan tribal district on Thursday.
Media reports quoting police said four employees of National Engineering Services Pakistan (Nespak) were returning from work when unidentified armed men targeted their vehicle, leaving them dead on the spot.
District Police Officer (DPO) Shafiullah Gandapur said the dead included one local and three others from Dera Ismail Khan, Abbottabad and Gujranwala districts.
Investigation into the incident has started and a search operation was been launched to nab the culprits. However, there was no word about any arrests.
Target killing incidents have become a permanent headache for the law enforcing agencies in North Waziristan. Spike in target killing incidents has worried the locals as well about their security.
On November 19, a target killer was nabbed by local youth when he along with an accomplice was coming back after killing a boy in Khadri (Sur Kot) area. Local sources said two target killers were coming back after shooting dead a boy when the youth of Khadri village intercepted them and caught hold of one of them, while the other target killer escaped.
The local people praised the bravery of the youth for nabbing the target killer which was supposed to be the duty of police. They urged the police to improve its performance and ensure security of the citizens.
On November 05, a target killing incident happened in Mir Ali Bazaar in North Waziristan.
Police said a local person, Malik Nafees Haiderkhel was busy in routine shopping in Mir Ali Bazaar when unidentified armed men came on a motorcycle and opened fire on him, leaving him dead on the spot.
The assailants escaped from the scene after committing the crime. Police shifted the body to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Mir Ali for legal formalities. Police initiated investigation into the target killing incident.
On October 31, three people lost their lives and six others were injured in separate incidents in North Waziristan.
TNN correspondent reported that one person was killed and five others sustained injuries in firing between two rival groups in Razmak Bazaar. Two persons lost their lives after falling into a 50-foot deep well in Khushali village of Mir Ali tehsil.
