PESHAWAR, 14 November: A fresh case of polio surfaced on Saturday in FR Peshawar, which raised the total number of polio cases all over the country to 40.

According to a source in the National Institute of Health (NIH) a 12-year old baby of the semi tribal FR Peshawar was diagnosed with polio virus. “This is the 40th case reported so far during the current year,” the source informed.

So far, 15 cases of polio virus have been reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 13 from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), six from Balochistan, five from Sindh and one case of polio has been reported from Punjab, the source said. “This figure is far low as compared to previous years’ tally of 306,” the official said adding polio cases in Pakistan have dropped down by 85 percent, a fact which had also been admitted and appreciated by World Health Organization.
