BUNER: Shangla Police have filed a case of alleged sexual assault on a schoolgirl by watchman of another school.
Police said the incident happened on June 18 at Girls High School Shekolai in the limits of Choga Police Station in Puran tehsil. The victim did not file an FIR initially due to fear of social issues, but then her family decided to go to police after constantly receiving threats from the alleged assaulter.
The victim girl is a student of 10th grade in Girls High School Shekolai. She told police that on June 18, she was standing on road near her school for a vehicle at 10:30am when the watchman of the nearby girls middle school, Ikhtiar Ali came there and told her not to stand in scorching sun and sit with other teachers in the school until the van comes and then he will tell her upon arrival of the van. The girl said she went inside the school, but no teacher was there. She said the watchman offered her pikoras and cold drink, but she refused, but then the watchman tried to forcibly make her eat and drink.
The girl said she tried to run away from the school, but the watchman held her from both arms and threatened her to kill her if she refused to fulfil his immoral desire. She said she managed to push the watchman back and ran outside, but the watchman followed her and repeated his threats. She said a male teacher was present on the road at that time who saved her and slapped the watchman. She said no one else knew about the incident at that time.
Advocate Altaf Hussain, member of District Bar Buner, says hundreds of incidents of sexual assault happen in our society, but girls stop short of reporting such incidents out of apprehensions that it may bring dishonour and shame for the family. He says the victim girls must register cases against sexual assaulters so that they could be punished for their immoral act.
An official at Choga Police Station told TNN that it is first time that such a complaint has been lodged in the area. He said a case has been lodged against the accused and investigation is underway. He said the accused has been arrested and he would be dealt according to law.
