PESHAWAR, August 28: The federal and Punjab governments have ordered the Punjab Police to register a case concerning the Model Town incident (Lahore), in which Prime Minister Mr Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Mr Shahbaz Sharif and three ministers along with 21 government officials would be nominated.

Sources said the federal government had asked the Punjab government and the latter then ordered the Lahore Police to file a FIR of the incident, which had left 14 workers of Minhajul Quran dead and up 100 injured as a result of police firing on 17 June.

On 27 August, the High Court ordered registration of the case as per the request of the victims but no action was taken.

Pakistan Awami Tehrik chief Dr Tahirul Qadri and Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf chief Mr Imran Khan say the Sharif brothers (Premier Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif) must resign.
