PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information Minister Shaukat Yousafzai has said that patients are suffering due to the strike and made it clear to the doctors that no one can stop the PTI government from reforming the health sector of the province.
Yousafzai was addressing a press conference on Thursday.
Yousafzai added that the provincial government is ready to set with the doctors and listen to their issues. However, he said, all those doctors who have been transferred to serve in the far-flung area of the province must accept the transfer order. He added that doctors are getting hefty salaries and incentives and in return, they have to serve the public.
However, he added, if a doctor thinks that he has been transferred due to political reasons, the government will listen to him. For this purpose, he revealed, they have constituted a committee to look into all such complaints.
The information minister said that since the PTI government has taken the charge, the number of doctors have been increased by 140 per cent in government hospitals along with their salaries and incentives. Yousafzai maintained that all these doctors cannot serve in Peshawar, but have to provide treatment at hospitals in far-flung areas of the province.
“If a doctor thinks that his private clinic is affected due to transfer, the government can’t take its responsibility. As doctors first responsibility is to provide treatment at hospitals, anywhere in the province,” the minister said.
Yousafzai, while talking about the reforms in the government hospital said that it was the agenda to change the decades-old system and reform the health sector to provide relief to the masses. Any doctor who is against the reforms will not be tolerated in the system. He said that the people have voted the PTI in order to reform the system.
On behalf of the Chief Minister, said the information minister, I request all the doctors to end the strike and come back to hospitals as the government will listen to all their logical demands.
