PESHAWAR, 18 March: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has decided to scrap the two-year MA and BA programmes.
The HEC said communiques have been sent to the vice chancellors of all the universities in this regard. Under the new programmes, the universities will launch four-year BA and BSc honours programmes instead of two-year programme from 2018 and eight-year MS programmes from 2020 instead of two-year MA, MSc. The existing students of two-year programmes will be shifted to the semester system.
Education experts said this step of the HEC will cause difficulties for the colleges affiliated with the universities. They said the four-year programmes will need construction of extra rooms and staff.
