PESHAWAR: A high-level meeting at the office of the Fata Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) in Peshawar on Friday devised plan for repatriation of leftover displaced families of five tribal agencies of Fata.
Director General FDMA Sirajul Haq chaired the meeting while representatives of 11 Corps, TDP Secretariat, Headquarters FC North and South, HQ 7 and 9 divisions, political administrations of all the five agencies — North and South Waziristan, Kurram, Orakzai and Khyber — and line departments from Fata Secretariat were also present.
The DG FDMA briefed the participants about the overall plan of the return of temporarily displaced persons (TDPs) and their rehabilitation in their respective areas. He also advised the political administration of the five agencies to put forward their proposals about the rehabilitation and other requirements of the TDPs after repatriation to their respective areas. The meeting also decided to ensure provision of drinking water, health facilities, education and tents etc. in case of damaged houses where needed.
The participants were told that TDPs from South Waziristan, Orakzai, Kurram and Khyber were previously granted return cash grants, but they were not returned physically due to seasonal hindrances.
The DG FDMA said that according to the fresh return plan, TDPs of Khyber Agency, Kurram, Orakzai and South Waziristan were scheduled to be repatriated within the given timeframe.
In the meeting, representatives of the Pakistan Army also declared that the areas given in the fresh return plan were cleared in level three and the TDPs return to those areas was safe though some of the areas were in dire need of rehabilitation activities.
The political administrations’ representatives also put forward their suggestions and requirements to the forum which were thoroughly discussed.
It was decided that surveys will be expedited to help the effected families in early settlement and meetings will be arranged at agency level to identify immediately required schemes in consultation with the political administration and law enforcement agencies. It was also decided in the meeting that donors will be contacted to ensure provision of non-food items, Ramazan package and Eid packages for the freshly repatriated families in all the five agencies.
It was also decided that WFP will be requested for provision of food items to these families for at least three months.
Sirajul Haq told the representatives of the political administration that in case of vulnerabilities, the FDMA will provide tents to the deserving families upon return.
