PESHAWAR: Pakistan reported the highest death toll from coronavirus in a single day in three months on Thursday.
According to official data, 26 more people died of coronavirus in the country over the last 24 hours with 1,302 new cases reported.
The number of patients recovered from the virus has reached 316,665. There are 15,317 active cases of coronavirus in the country.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, three more deaths were reported from coronavirus during the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 1,284.
As many as 133 new cases were confirmed in KP, taking the total to 40,022. 25 more patients have recovered, taking the total tally to 37,829. Active cases are at 909.
On Wednesday, a college in Chitral was closed after emergence of corona cases in students.
The deputy commissioner’s office said the government college for boys in Lower Chitral has been sealed for eight days after corona tests of 14 students came back as positive.
According to a notification from the Lower Chitral DC Office, the college has been sealed till November 12. The students who have tested positive have been asked to self isolate for two weeks and follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Islamabad has reported 223 fresh coronavirus cases and five new deaths, Gilgit-Baltistan has reported 14 cases and Azad Jammu and Kashmir has reported 76 new cases and five more deaths. Punjab has reported 338 new coronavirus cases and five deaths during the last 24 hours. Total cases in Punjab stand at 105,535 while the death toll is 2,385.
The corona positivity rate has reached an alarming extent of 7.7 percent in Islamabad, while two more educational institutions in the capital have also been sealed after emergence of corona cases.
The administration said the number of active cases is increasing gradually for the last few weeks and now the number of new cases reported daily has outnumbered recoveries.
Sindh has reported 492 new corona cases and eight deaths during the last 24 hours.
The Chief Minister’s House said the provincial tally of cases has reached 147,787 and deaths to 2,647. As many as 357 people have recovered in the province during the last 24 hours.
