Like other parts of the world, Hindu community living in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata also celebrated Diwali with religous fervor and enthusiasm.

The Peshawar’s Karkhano market have a large number of Hindus, most of them residing in the adjacent Khyber Agency. On Diwali day, they exchanged greetings with each other.

Shivnath Sharma, one of the shopkeeper in Karkhano market, told TNN that though, Diwali is a festival of lights, but due to the prevailing law and order situation and the deaths occurred in the province due to natural disasters, they had decided to observe the festival with simplicity.

“We used to celebrate Diwali and other festivals with great fervor and zeal. We usually do fireworks and enjoy lighting. But this year, we are celebrating it with simplicity as the current situation demands so,” he added.

He said they had been enjoying complete freedom in observing their religious rituals and the government had been facilitating them alot.
