BISHAM, May 12: Owners of hotels and other businesses have refused to pay tax and register employees in the name of social security in Bisham area of Shangla district.

On 11 May, the representatives of the hostels association, owners and other businesspersons told journalists that the government had declared the Malakand region tax-free after floods, earthquake and militancy affected their businesses.

They added that now the provincial government wanted to impose labour laws on them. They said that if the government did not withdraw its decision, they would have no option but to close their businesses.

President of the All Bisham Hotels Association, Hameed-ur-Rehman, said, “We do not have any other business except hotels and shops but now we are even thinking of closing them. The government has fixed 600 rupees fee each for registration of our employees and our businesses would have to be closed because we cannot pay this amount.”
