BARA: An improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded in front of the house of Maroof Khan, a well-known businessman and contesting candidate from NA-44 Bara Khyber Agency here in Hayatabad area of Peshawar on Thursday. However no casualty was reported in the blast. Local police said that an IED was placed by unknown miscreants outside the male guest house of Maroof in Phase 2 area of Hayatabad locality which exploded in the afternoon. They said no human or property damage was occurred as result of the blast. Police has started investigation in the case.This is the first time Maroof is contesting elections from his constituency as independent candidate and many heavy weights are afraid of his entry into the electoral politics and popularity among the locals. Many well-off candidates from Khyber Agency are living in adjacent Peshawar while they visit the tribal district every day for running their campaigns. Despite several attempts ,Maroof did not receive call from TNN reporter to know his side of the story. However police said that Maroof who is a big impoerter of blankets had been receiving threatening calls from an Afghanistan based mobile number 0093764007378 for last few days.
Meanwhile workers of two independent candidates from NA-43 exchanges fire after trading harsh words during their rallies in Landikotal in Khyber Agency on Thursday. Local sources said that the workers of Shermat Khan and Al-Haj Shahji Gul confronted each other in Landikotal and raised slogans against each other that forced both sides to open fire in the air and pressurize the opposite group. However no casualty was reported in the cross firing. Both candidate are blaming each other for starting fire.
