PESHAWAR, 18 September: The Islamabad High Court on Monday admitted for hearing a petition seeking initiating contempt of court proceedings against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
A single bench of the IHC presided over by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani took up the petition filed by one advocate Makhdoom Niaz Inqilabi.
The petition stated that Nawaz Sharif committed contempt of court during a speech in Lahore on August 25. It added that during his speech at a lawyers’ convention Lahore, Nawaz Sharif criticised the Supreme Court’s July 28 verdict.
The court after hearing the preliminary arguments of the petitioner, admitted the petition for hearing. It will be taken up for next hearing on October 1.
