PESHAWAR, 30 October: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and his wife Reham Khan have mutually decided to divorce.
Talking to TV channels, the PTI spokesman Naeemul Haq confirmed that Imran and Rehman have separated after mutual consent. He said the divorce happened over a serious issue, however he did not share any further details.
In a tweet, Imran Khan said that divorce is painful for him, Reham and their respective families and requested everyone to respect their privacy. He categorically denied the rumours about any financial settlement with Reham. Imran said that he has great respect for Reham’s moral character and her passion to help and work for the underprivileged people of society.
Sources close PTI chairman said that the main reason behind divorce was that Reham wanted to hump into politics which Imran disapproved that created serious differences between the two.
In August, Imran had barred Reham Khan from getting involved in party affairs, following her campaign for PTI candidate in the NA-19 (Haripur) by-polls that was won by PML-N candidate.
Some other sources said that there was pressure on Khan from his sisters to divorce Reham who were against her marriage with Imran from very beginning.
Reham who left for London on Thursday confirmed the news of her divorce through a tweet on Friday. Both Imran and Reham got married in January this year.
Earlier Imran married to Jemima, a British citizen in 1995. But they broke up in 2004 after Jemima could not adjust herself to Pakistani culture and environment. Imran Khan and Jemima have two sons.
Earlier Reham Khan had married to a doctor of Pakistani origin in London Ijaz Rehman, but later they got separated. Reham has three children with her previous husband.
