PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has initiated an inquiry into reports of misuse of coronavirus vaccine in Takhtbhai, Mardan.

KP Health Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra said in a statement that Mardan district health officer (DHO) has been suspended after reports came to surface about misuse of corona vaccine in Takhtbhai.

“We have taken immediate action. DHO Mardan has been relieved of his post with immediate effect; he will be suspended and an inquiry initiated. Two additional individuals have also been suspended,” said the minister.

Taimur Jhagra said the KP government has a zero tolerance policy towards any misuse of public vaccine, in any form; pilferage, or out of turn vaccinations.

29,370 fines imposed over SOPs violations

Peshawar Traffic Police has imposed fines on 29,370 people during the last one month for violating the corona standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Chief Traffic Officer Abbas Majeed Marwat said that facemasks were being distributed among the passengers and drivers, while they were being educated to follow SOPs.

Meanwhile, Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information Kamran Bangash said the KP government has taken strict action against violators of the corona SOPs.

Talking to the media, Kamran Bangash said the district administration, police and other relevant departments have taken 17,461 actions against violators in a single day. He said 528 businesses were sealed, while 5,141 individuals and businesses were issued warnings for violation of SOPs. He said that a total of Rs628,510 fine has been imposed on 643 individuals and businesses and 1,962 FIRs have also been registered for violations. He disclosed that five vehicles have also been confiscated for violating SOPs in public transport.

Oxygen cylinder goes costly

The price of oxygen cylinder has been enhanced by 90 percent which has increased the difficulties of the corona patients.

However oxygen cylinder supply has not been cut short. The use of oxygen per day has increased from 40,000 to 72,000 litres in KP due to mounting pressure of patients of coronavirus in hospitals.

The daily use of oxygen in KTH has reached 7000 litres per day. Oxygen demand in Bannu and Mardan Medical Complex and Ayub Teaching Hospital has also increased due to rise in number of patients therein.
