NOWSHERA, 16 November: Investigation into illegal kidney transplants at a private hospital in Nowshera has been completed which has recommended cancellation of documents and life ban on the involved staff members, including doctor, paramedical staff and drug inspector.
A team of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) conducted a raid on Dua Clinic in Pabbi area of Nowshera two months ago where illegal kidney transplant from one person to another person was being carried out. Dr Abdul Aziz Dawar, who was conducting the surgery, four technicians from Punjab and anaesthesia technician from Peshawar Abdur Rehman were arrested on the spot, while another technician, Zafar managed to escape from the scene.
The inquiry report has recommended that the registration of Dr Abdul Aziz from the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and diploma certificates of the technicians should be cancelled and life ban should be imposed on them. The report has also recommended strict action against Drug Inspector Tayyeb Abbas. The FIA has also been asked to widen its investigations into illegal kidney transplants. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Healthcare Commission has also been asked to improve its performance.
