KHAR, 08 May: Like other parts of the country, World Thalassemia Day was also observed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
In this connection, a rally was held in Khar, the headquarters of Bajaur Agency, today. Participants of the rally were holding placards inscribed with the slogans seeking support for the patients of thalassemia.
Addressing the participants of the rally, speakers said that those contracting marriages within a family tree are highly prone to this disease. They said that the marrying couple should get their medical test to check the chances of thalassemia in their kids.
“Objective of marking this day is to create awareness among the masses that inter-family marriages lead to this deadly disease. Parents must get their children test for thalassemia before marrying them. Bearing in mind the growing number of thalassemia patients, government should establish separate wards for such patients in hospitals,” they said.
