Youth of South Waziristan stage protest against the unavailability of internet service.

WANA: The people of South Waziristan tribal district on Friday staged a rally for provision of 3G and 4G internet facility in Wana.

The rally participated by students, businessmen and other people belonging to different walks of life marched through different parts of Wana Bazaar and ended at Wana Camp. Speakers on the occasion demanded the government to provide internet facility in the whole region as it is a basic requirement for students and businessmen.

Assistant Commissioner Wana Fahadullah along with local elders reached the protest venue and held talks with the protesters for two hours. The assistant commissioner assured that he will make all out efforts for bringing internet facility in Wana. A committee was also formed on the occasion for holding talks with concerned officials. After the assurance, the protesters dispersed peacefully.

Earlier in April, hundreds of students of Wana degree college in South Waziristan  took to roads and demanded resumption of mobile and internet services in the agency.

The services have been suspended in the tribal district by Pakistani  government since 2010 due to security reasons. The banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan was founded by its pioneer leader Baitullah Mehsud 10 years ago in South Waziristan. The TTP is dominated by Mehsud Taliban from south Waziristan that brought chaos to the district over the last 13 years.  .
