KHAR: The 3G and 4G internet service in Bajaur tribal district could not be restored so far despite clear directive of Prime Minister Imran Khan about restoration of internet service.
Local sources said officials in the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and other elements are putting impingements in the restoration of internet service in Bajaur tribal district even after the clear directives of the prime minister. Delay in provision of internet service has disappointed the local people, particularly the students.
People of Bajaur have called upon the prime minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mehmood Khan, corps commander Peshawar, and elected representatives from the area to take concrete steps for restoration of internet service in the area.
Prime Minister Imran Khan during his visit to Bajaur tribal district few days ago had announced restoration of internet service. After the prime minister’s announcement, Deputy Commissioner Usman Mehsud had sent a letter to four mobile phone companies for restoration of 3G and 4G internet service in the area. The letter was issued by the deputy commissioner to the provincial heads of the cellular companies – Telenor Pakistan, Zong Pakistan, Ufone Pakistan – requesting them to launch high-speed internet service in Bajuar.
On the other hand, official sources said the internet service has been partially restored in Bajaur and it will be restored fully in a day or two.
Few days back, the cellular service was inaugurated in North Waziristan tribal district by Chief Minister Mahmood Khan along with federal and provincial cabinet members at a ceremony in Miranshah. The chief minister announced that all the incommunicado tribal districts of Pakistan will be connected with the world through 3G and 4G cellular services.
All mobile phone services and internet facilities were suspended due to law and order issues in the tribal districts during militancy and subsequent military operations. People, especially those working in offices, students and those searching for jobs were suffering due to the suspension of internet services.
The local people praised the decision of the government, and expressed hope that now the 3G and 4G internet service will be restored in all tribal districts of the country as per the pledge of the government.
