PESHAWAR, 18 October: The Pakistan Army has said news reports about a US drone strike in Kurram Agency were baseless and the US has not violated Pakistani airspace.

Director General Inter Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor said the US and Afghan security forces are conducting joint operations in Khost and Paktika in Afghanistan, bordering Kurram Agency. He said a number of aerial attacks have been reported in the operation during the last 24 hours during which the militants have reputedly suffered significant losses. He said cooperation between the two countries increased after visit of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa to Afghanistan. He said the Afghan security forces had already informed Pakistan about the operations.

Clarification by the ISPR came after three drone attacks in the Pak-Afghan border areas reportedly killed several militants and injured many others. Some reports suggested that one of the drone strike was carried out in Kurram Agency.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif also said the recent US drone attacks targeted Pak-Afghan border area and did not happen inside Pakistan’s territory.
