PESHAWAR: The Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) President Mir Jam Kamal Khan was elected 16th Chief Minister of Balochistan Assembly on Saturday with 39 votes.
Jam Kamal’s rival candidate belonging to the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) Mir Younas Aziz Zehri got 20 votes. The session of the Balochistan Assembly was chaired by Speaker Abdul Qudus Bizenjo at the start of the session took oath from former chief minister Sanaullah Zehri. The supporters of Jam Kamal and Younis were sent to separate lobbies for voting.
The BAP president enjoyed the support of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Awami National Party (ANP), Hazara Democratic Party (HDP), Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) and Balochistan National Party-Awami (BNP-A).
Jam Kamal’s father Jam Muhammad Yousaf and grandfather Jam Mir Ghulam Qadir Khan had also served as chief ministers of Balochistan.
