PESHAWAR, 15 September: The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has called upon the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to ensure maximum participation of women in the voting in the next general elections.

The JI in a letter to the ECP said agents of different political parties during the last general elections persuaded the women voters to cast votes against their choice and separate polling stations for women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were also insufficient. It said transparency of the election may be compromised due to shortage of polling stations and staff for women voters.

The JI said in its letter that most women in FATA cannot use their right to vote due to lack of computerised national identity cards (CNICs). He said National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) should be issued directions to make CNICs for FATA women on priority basis.

The letter also called upon the ECP to appoint helpers for assisting the women voters at the polling stations. It said the women must be facilitated to cast their vote according to their choice free from the influence of agents of political parties.
