PESHAWAR, 25 May: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chief Senator Sirajul Haq, Khyber Pakhtunkwha ministers and three provincial secretaries have tendered unconditional apology to the Chief Election Commissioner in Islamabad for violating the code of ethics set of the upcoming local government elections.
In addition to JI chief, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa minister including Mushtaq Ghani, Sardar Idrees, Habibur Rahman and provincial secretaries of zakat and ushr, local government and education were also charged with running the campaign of party candidates and using government funds to influence electorate.
They submitted their written apologies with the Chief Election Commissioner Justice (Retd) Sardar Muhammad Raza, promising that they would not take part in any election activity till 30th May.
The chief election commissioner warned them of strict action if they were found involved in any election activity till the polling day—May 30. Till then politicians should also refrain from initiating any development work or issuing any kind of official advertisements.
