PESHAWAR, 4 November: A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court for early hearing of a case about 436 people named in Panama Papers.
The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) ameer Siraul Haq filed the potion, saying that his earlier petition on the matter has not been heard by the court. The petition said the decision against Nawaz Sharif and his family came on the application of the petitioner for eradicating corruption from the country and recovering the looted money of the public. However, it said, decision is yet to come against other owners of offshore companies in Pakistan mentioned in Panama Papers. The petitioner further said the looted money of the country will not be recovered if decision did not come on the petition. The petitioner requested the court to hear the case on 8 November.
On 24 January, a five-member bench of the Supreme Court had requested the Chief Justice of Pakistan to conduct accountability of the ruling family first and the rest should follow. The Supreme Court had disqualified Nawaz Sharif in its verdict on Panama Papers case on 28 July. The review petition in the case was dismissed on 15 September.
