GHALLANAI: The tribal elders have called upon the government to pay salaries to the teachers of Governor Model School in Mamadgat, Mohmand tribal district, which are pending for the last six months.
The demand was made at a Jirga of tribal elders from Safi tehsil of Mohmand and Nawagai tehsil of Bajaur on Thursday. The Jirga members visited Governor Model School and got first-hand knowledge about the problems of the school, teachers and students.
Hundreds of students from Nawagai and Safi sub-divisions are enrolled in Governor Model School. The school was formally regularised after merger of erstwhile Fata with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Despite regulation, the Education Department has not paid the salaries to teaching staff for the last six months due to which they are facing a lot of difficulties. The local elders said the future of the school students will become uncertain if the teachers left the job due to non-payment of salaries. They said teachers cannot fully concentrate on teaching properly to students amid economic problems due to non-payment of salaries.
Malik Israel Safi, Maulana Khanzeb, Malik Firdous Khan Safi, Rehmani Gul, Malik Shireen, Dr Nauman and other elders, who participated in the Jirga, called upon the concerned authorities and local parliamentarians to play role in resolving the problems of the school. They said no compromise should be made on quality of education, and steps like stoppage of salaries prove to be a distraction in smooth functioning of quality educational institutions.
