Sabir Ali, a Tv journalist from Nowshera succumbed to his injuries at LRH

PESHAWAR: Sabir Ali, a TV cameraman who was shot injured last year died from his injuries at Lady Reading hospital on Saturday, says his family. Ali was with Noor Ul Hasan, a Nowshera-based reporter of a private television channel, who was shot dead on Ring road by unknown motorcyclists.

The 30-year old Sabir was Hasan’s companion, who worked as his cameraman, was injured in the incident and was shifted to Lady Reading hospital. He succumbed to his injuries after 36 days of the incident taking the number of journalists killed in KP to 06 during 2018.  Sabir’s family said that he has received two bullets injuries in his vital organs due to which, despite hard efforts by the doctors, his life couldn’t be rescued.

KP police Chief Salahuddin Khan Mehsud has taken notice of the killing and directed the city police chief to investigate the case and arrest the killers. But so far no progress is made in investigation and the arrest of culprits behind the killing of two journalists.

It is pertinent to mention here that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has also announced financial assistance for the families of both slain journalists, but so far the compensation has not been paid to the bereaved families.

The district Union of Journalists, Nowshera has strongly protested against the inability of the government to arrest the killers of the journalists. They have demanded the KP government and the police department to expedite efforts to arrests the culprits otherwise; they will come out on roads as a protest. The Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) has also condemned the attack on journalists and accused the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the security forces to have failed in ensuring protection to journalists in the province.

The funeral prayers of the slain video journalist will be offered in Saidu village of district Nowshera.
