KABUL, 31 October: At least three people including a woman were killed in a suicide bombing in Kabul’s high-security diplomatic district of Wazir Akbar Khan on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

Pajwok News while quoting Ministry of Defense spokesman Gen. Dawlat Waziri said the bomber on foot blew himself up near the US Embassy. Police moved swiftly to cordon off the attack site.

He said the attack happened on the 14th road of Wazir Akbar Khan area away from the International Relations Department and the MoD at about 4pm.

Wahid Majroh, a spokesman of MoPH, said at least three people were killed and 15 others wounded in the incident. The injured were shifted to nearest hospitals from the incident area, he said.

Eyewitnesses said security forces cordoned off the area soon after the blast close to the Green Zone where diplomatic missions, embassies and international NGOs are located.

The Interior Ministry and police confirmed the explosion in the upscale neighbourhood. Panicked residents of the area also heard the explosion but gave no further details.
