PESHAWAR, 13 November: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah has written a letter to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to show his reservations over giving the benefits of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project to Punjab only and ignoring other provinces.

The opposition leader said in the letter that government is focusing on the eastern portion of the CPEC which is situated in Punjab and most of the power houses under the project will also be constructed in Punjab. He said due to these steps of the government, negative feelings had been created among the people of other provinces against Punjab.

Mr Shah said all other provinces, especially the Sindh province, are being deprived from the benefit of the multi-billion dollars project. He termed CPEC a once in a lifetime opportunity for Pakistan, adding that the entire country should equally benefit from the mega project.

The federal government had come under severe criticism from different political parties from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan for allegedly changing the original route of the CPEC to benefit Punjab. The government had also called an all parties conference after which it claimed that reservations of all the parties on the project had been removed.

However, the political leadership of KP and Balochistan has again raised the issue, blaming that the government has backed out of its promises regarding the CPEC project. They allege that the federal government has again concentrated all its energies for completing the Punjab portion of the project and ignored the KP portion altogether.
