LANDIKOTAL: The journalist community of Khyber tribal district has demanded justice for the family of slain journalist Hidayat Shah Afridi.

The media persons have demanded that the autopsy report of the slain journalist must be made public, while the deputy commissioner of Khyber district must immediately pay compensation cheque to his family.

A joint meeting of journalists of three tehsils of Khyber district, Landikotal, Jamrud and Bara, was held at Landikotal Press Club on Thursday. Participants of the meeting passed a unanimous resolution demanding justice for the family of the slain journalist from Bara.

The presidents of the three press clubs in Khyber district demanded that the killers of Hidayat Shah Afridi must be brought to justice and the victim family must get Shaheed Package. They demanded Deputy Commissioner Mehmood Aslam Wazir to make arrangements for payment of compensation to the victim family without further delay.

The members of the three press clubs formed a committee which will hold meetings with concerned officials to make sure that the family of the slain journalist gets justice and compensation. Fateha was also held for the departed soul during the meeting.

On July 04, journalist Hidayat Shah Afridi was killed in a quarrel with Afghan refugees in Asad Town. His autopsy report is yet to be released.

Initial reports said Hidayat Shah died of head injuries while being taken to hospital. He was reportedly hit by Afghan refugees in his head with bricks outside his house.

On July 09, the relatives of Hidayat Shah Afridi alleged that the murderers have the backing of influential people due to which they still roam freely in the area.

Addressing a press conference at Bara Press Club, the family members of Hidayat Shah Afridi said they have nominated five accused in the first information report (FIR), but only two accused have been arrested, while three killers are still roaming freely in the area as they have strong connections and police are also reluctant to arrest them.

The relatives demanded the government to announce Shaheed Package for Hidayat Shah as he has left behind five daughters and two sons who need support and good education.
