PESHAWAR: Karachi Kings defeated Lahore Qalandars by five wickets in the 20th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Dubai on Thursday.
Again the toss-winning captain of Karachi opted to field first and restricted Qalandars to 133 runs for the loss of five wickets. Captain AB de Villiers scored 33 runs, while Sohail Akhtar scored 29.
Iftikhar Ahmed was the pick of bowlers for Kings who took two wickets in his two overs and conceded just four runs. Umer Khan, Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim took one wicket each.
After a hard-fought contest, Kings got over the line in the last over with five wickets to spare. Livingstone was top scorer with 38 runs, while Iftikhar Ahmed scored 33.
For Qalandars, Lamichhane took two wickets, while Wiese, Yasir Shah and Haris Rauf took one wicket each.
Iftikhar Ahmed was declared player of the match for his brilliant all-round performance.
After Thursday’s matches, Peshawar Zalmi are now on top of points table with eight points followed by Islamabad United (8 points), Quetta Gladiators (8), Lahore Qalandars (6), Karachi Kings (6) and Multan Sultans (4).
Zalmi secure easy victory against Sultans
In an earlier match of the day, Peshawar Zalmi defeated Multan Sultans by seven wickets.
Sultans after being put into bat first scored 172 runs for the loss of five wickets. Johnson Charles was top scorer for Sultans with 57, while James Vince scored 41 and captain Shoaib Malik scored 28. Like the previous match, Sultans repeated the issue of not picking up pace in the end of the inning and ended up few runs short.
For Zalmi, Umaid Asif, Liam Dawson and Hasan Ali picked one wicket each.
Zalmi surpassed the target in the last over with seven wickets to spare. Kieron Pollard scored 52, while Umar Amin scored 54, and Imam-ul-Haq also contributed well with 39.
Shahid Afridi, Muhammad Ilyas and Muhammad Irfan took one wicket each for Sultans.
Pollard was declared player of the match for his fascinating knock.
Two matches will be played in the PSL-4 today (Friday). In the first match, Islamabad United will face Peshawar Zalmi at 4:30pm (PST), while in second match, Multan Sultans will face Quetta Gladiators at 9:00pm (PST).
