DASSU, 15 November: The dwellers of the far flung hilly district, Kohistan, have been facing great difficulties due to unavailability of health facilities. Talking to TNN, people of the district complained that none of the government hospital had a lady doctor, due to which the women folk were facing great problems particularly at the time of delivery.
“Kohistan does not have a district headquarter hospital (DHQ) neither there is a single lady doctor posted in any of the government hospitals. Our women are being treated by non-professional ladies,” remarked one of the residents of the district.
The district also did not have a specialist surgeon, said another resident, adding sometimes there is also acute shortage of medicines in the government health facilities. “Neither our elected representatives nor media highlight the problems we have been facing in health sector,” he complained.
When asked, an official of the health department Rafiullah Khan told TNN that though unavailability of female doctors was a problem, there were also 27 vacant posts of male doctors which had not been filled since long.
