PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Mushtaq Ghani said on Tuesday that the provincial assembly’s committee on child protection has discussed various strict punishments for sexual abuse convicts, including hanging of the convicts publicly for three days.

Talking to media on Tuesday, Mushtaq Ghani said the KP Assembly’s special committee was mulling over a bill for strict laws to deal with the increasing incidents of sexual abuse in the country. He said the provincial government and the legislature has taken strict notice of such incidents. He said the special committee will finalise its recommendations after thorough discussions.

Mushtaq Ghani, who is also chairman of the special committee, said the provincial government would ensure that the bill gets nod from the KP Assembly within a month and implemented in true letter and spirit.

Increasing ancients of sexual abuse of children in KP have left the civil society, particularly the parents, highly perturbed and calls for strictest punishment to culprits involved in such crimes are being made with emergency of every such case.

The KP Assembly speaker said the committee headed by him would draft such a bill that would be followed by rest of the country. He said Chief Minister Mehmood Khan was in regular contact with the committee members over the bill that would help curb incidents of child abuse.

Some of other strict recommendations of the committee, according to different media reports, include giving access to the hanging place of convicts to the members of the victim family, making video of hanging and in case of life imprisonment, the imprisonment must continue till natural death of convict.

About other issues, Mushtaq Ghani said that the Public Account Committee headed by him has recovered Rs5 billion in one year from public departments. He said that under the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, he made Rs120 million savings in KP Assembly by adopting austerity measures.

The speaker said that more cut would be applied on extra expenditures this year, adding until now no member of the assembly went abroad on government expenses.

Mushtaq Ghani assured that the problems of parliamentary reporters will be resolved by constituting a committee.
