PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly on Wednesday unanimously passed a resolution asking the federal government to review the recent increase in Hajj expenditure.

The resolution was moved by Sahibzada Sanaullah of Pakistan People Party also endorsed by government and other opposition members. The resolution says that recent increase in Hajj expenditures has disappointed low income people and deprived them from performing Hajj.

The PTI led federal government has withdrawn the Hajj subsidy last week. According to the federal minister for religious affairs, Noorul Haq Qadri said that it was a burden on national exchequer and now Rs4.5 billion will be saved after the government decided to charge full price from pilgrims.

Meanwhile, the house also unanimously passed a resolution moved by Nighat Orakzai of PPP demanding provision of Psychiatrist facility to the children of the deceased person in Sahiwal incident.

Similarly, another resolution moved by Inayatullah Khan of Jamat-e-Islami was also passed unanimously demanding the government to set up of an organization like PESCO to address the issue of power generation and distribution in Malakand.

Opposition criticizes govt for retaining chairmanship of PAC  

The opposition in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly got assurance by treasury benches of resolving issues after they criticized the government for retaining chairmanship of Public Account Committee (PAC) and Standing Committees.

The leader of the Opposition, Akram Khan Durrani soon after reciting the Holy Quran raised the issued and said that the government has neglected the opposition in the chairmanship of PAC and distribution of developmental funds.

Durrani said that opposition wants good relations with government abiding by traditions of KP Assembly. Durrani said that the chairmanship of PAC was the right of the leader of the opposition.

He said that the government had given surety in the house to provide a record of Billion Trees Afforestation Project and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) but did not do anything tangible in this regard yet.

Speaker Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani said that he has got the chairmanship of PAC according to rules and said that treasury benches have also not received any developmental funds.  Senior Minister Atif Khan said that previous governments had ignored the opposition but PTI government was trying to take opposition with it. He said that a meeting of opposition with Chief Minister can be arranged to resolve their issues and problems.
