PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council on Tuesday rejected the results of July 25 general elections and demanded probe into the allegations of rigging by different political parties.
After the general body meeting, the bar council in a resolution rejected the polls results and said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) failed in conducting the free, fair and impartial elections and did not provide level-playing field to all parties. The lawyers’ body demanded inquiry into the allegations.
The bar council members affiliated with the Insaf Lawyers Forum (ILF) opposed the resolution and walked out of the meeting in protest. The protesting lawyers said the forum shouldn’t be used to settle political scores. They insisted that the polls were free and fair.
The PTI-affiliated lawyers also staged a rally to celebrate the victory of the party in the elections.
