PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced the closure of all shopping malls, market and restaurants in the province and also suspended inter-city transport after confirmation of third death from coronavirus in the province.

The new restrictions kicked off on Sunday at 9:00am and will continue till March 24. Hotels will be allowed to sale food to customers who want to take food home, but hotel service will not be available. The suspension of inter-city traffic will come into effect from Monday and will continue for a week.

Earlier in the day, Adviser to KP Chief Minister on Information Ajmal Khan Wazir confirmed that the test results of a woman who had arrived from Taftan and shifted to Dera Ismail Khan quarantine, had come as positive, making it the province’s third coronavirus related death. The woman had died on Saturday and her test results were announced on Sunday. He said the total number of confirmed coronavirus infected person is KP stands at 31.

Now KP has reported three deaths from coronavirus, while the overall death toll in Pakistan stands at four.

Countrywide tally reaches 644

The nationwide tally of confirmed coronavirus cases has mounted to 644. Sindh remains the most affected province with 292 cases, followed by Punjab with 152 cases, Balochistan with 103 cases, Gilgit-Baltistan with 55 cases, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 31 cases, Islamabad with 10 cases, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir with one case.

Bridegroom arrested in Peshawar

The district administration of Peshawar has arrested a bridegroom after raiding a wedding party over violation of restrictions imposed by the government for prevention of spread of coronavirus.

The district administration said it raided a wedding party in Pishtakhara area of Peshawar and sent all the guests to home and arrested the bridegroom.

Despite ban on social gatherings, wedding functions are continuing in different parts of KP. People are also sharing pictures of weddings on the social media and making a mockery of the provincial government’s announcements.

The KP government has adopted several steps and directed the people to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary social associations for the time being to control the virus. So far the administration in Peshawar has raided several wedding halls and private schools and punished them for not following government directions.
