PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has agreed in principle with the construction of Peshawar- Dera Ismael Khan Motorway. It would be 339 KM connecting Peshawar, Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Bunnu, Lakki Marwat, Nowrang and DI Khan.

The motorway will have 15 interchanges and will approximately cost Rs 250 billion. It will be a 4 lane motorway which will be upgraded to 6 lanes in future.

It was announced by the adviser to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Merged districts, Ajmal Wazir on Monday during a press conference. Ajmal added the CM has given nod to 339 kilometres long Peshawar to D I Khan motorway to address the sense of deprivation among people of Southern districts.

Ajmal Wazir added that it was indeed a great project for Southern districts of KP province that would usher a new era of prosperity and development in these districts. He said as per the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan PTI government was committed to resolving masses’ problems on priority basis and pragmatic measures were being taken to facilitate them, adding that Sehat Insaf Card would be given to each and every individual holding Pakistani CNIC.

Ajmal Wazir said that the D I Khan Motorway would address the sense of deprivation of both the Southern districts of KP as well as merged districts. He said the motorway would link erstwhile Frontier Regions through Southern districts, adding the mega project would bring prosperity in merged districts.

The project will help in linking the Southern belt of the province with major communication routes, promote tourism and trade and will also help in promoting industrialisation in the province. CM Mahmood Khan has earlier stated that Daraband Economic Zone in Dera Ismail Khan will help in the development of the southern districts along with providing local residents with livelihood opportunities.
