BANNU, 13 September: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak on Tuesday assured to establish two new tehsils in Bannu district.

The chief minister gave this assurance to a Jirga led by the chief minister’s adviser Malik Shah Muhammad Khan Wazir which met him in Peshawar. The delegation members demanded establishment of two new tehsils in Bannu i.e. tehsil Banochi and tehsil Bakakhel. The chief minister assured that during his visit to Bannu next week, he will announce establishment of the two new tehsils.

Many people in Bannu are against the establishment of Bakakhel tehsil and they have also lodged protests in this regard. The protesters were of the view that out of 13 union councils of PK-72 constituency of Bannu, 11 union councils are against the establishment of Bakakhel tehsil. They said Bakakhel tehsil will damage their identity and it is an unsuitable location for establishment of a tehsil. They said the security institutions have also declared the area unsafe from security point of view. They said a second tehsil should be established in Bannu city.
