DI KHAN, 03 December: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Saturday laid the foundation stone of Gomal Zam Dam Command Area Development Project in Kulachi area of district DI Khan.

The project has been initiated to provide water for irrigation of the barren land in Tank and DI Khan districts. It would cost Rs3.37 billion rupees and would be completed in three years. When completed, the project will irrigate 191,000 acres of land in Tank and DI Khan.

As many as 393 water courses will be constructed in the area while one lac 63 thousand acre area will be leveled to make it cultivable.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister announced that water reservoirs would also be constructed in the area, adding funds for the construction of reservoir would be allocated in the next ADP.

Pervez Khattak also announced model farm house in agriculture research center in the area.

The director of the project Dr. Rabnawaz told TNN that the project was being jointly sponsored by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the USAID.

Chief Minister Pervez Khattak later visited the grave of former provincial minister Israrullah Gandapur and offered Fateha for his soul. The former Law Minister Israrullah was killed in a suicide on his resident in 2013.

The chief minister also inaugurated a sports stadium named after the slain lawmaker. He said that he would soon grant district status to tehsil Kulachi.
