PESHAWAR: The death toll from COVID-19 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reached 500 as 10 new deaths were reported on Wednesday.

According to latest data shared by the KP Health Department, as many as 476 new cases were confirmed in the province during the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 10,897. The new infections include 12 from those who have returned through international flights. Out of 10 new deaths, six have been reported in Peshawar and two in Nowshera and one each in Abbottabad and Khyber tribal district.

The Health Department said a total of 3,150 patients have recovered in KP including 65 during the last 24 hours. A total of 67,907 tests of suspected patients have been conducted in the province so far.

After maintaining the grim milestone of most deaths from the pandemic in the country for so many days, now it has gone to third number as Sindh and Punjab have now reported more deaths than KP.

Peshawar remains the most affected district of KP with 274 deaths, more than half of the total death toll in the province. The total confirmed cases in the metropolis have reached 4,174, including 145 fresh cases during the last 24 hours.

According to official data, Swat remains the second most affected district with 47 deaths, Mardan has reported 29 deaths, Nowshera and Bajaur have reported 16 deaths each, Malakand has reported 17 deaths, Abbottabad has reported 16 deaths, Swabi and Lower Dir reported 11 each, and Kohat has reported 12 deaths.

Countrywide death toll reaches 1,776

Death toll from COVID-19 in Pakistan has mounted to 1,776.

As many as 500 deaths have been reported in KP, 607 in Punjab, 555 in Sindh, 51 in Balochistan, 12 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 34 in Islamabad Capital Territory and seven in Azad Kashmir.

The total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Pakistan have mounted to 84,907.

Of these, 32,910 have been reported in Sindh, 31,104 in Punjab, 11,373 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 5,224 in Balochistan, 3,188  in Islamabad Capital Territory, 824  in Gilgit-Baltistan and 284 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

As many as 28,923 patients have recovered from the virus in Pakistan.
