Technical and Vocational Training Courses
The Managing Director of TVETA briefs media on replacing traditional Courses into market oriented courses.

Peshawar: In order to deliver technical and vocational trainings on modern lines, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TEVTA) has decided to convert all its traditional training programs into competency based training and assessment (CBT&A) aiming at improving quality of the trainings.

The CBT&A is an approach to respond to the needs of Industry in order to produce technical workforce as per market requirements. Sajjad Ali Shah, the managing director of TEVTA announced this while briefing media in Peshawar.

Under this paradigm shift, the CBT programs are designed and delivered by adopting a systematic approach, focusing on better employability of the trainees with strong market linkages.

He said that The CBT&A is already being implemented in some institutes of KP TEVTA with the support of the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) and the TVET sector support program, which is funded by European Union, and governments of Germany and Norway.

He said that they had joined hands with International donors and partners for achieving the goal of making the youth of the province as skilled for better employability prospects and the conversion of institutes would also bear good results.

The MD said that they were lagging behind otherwise CBT&A approach already exists in Asian countries such as Bangladesh, India, and Sri Lanka. He said these courses have been piloted in few institutes in KP and government has decided to upscale the implementation of CBT&A Courses across Pakistan.

The advisory, he said, has been issued to number of institutes in KP to initiate conversion of all traditional trades into CBT&A. The promotional of technical education would help the province to take benefit of its skilled human resources besides creating employment opportunities for technical workforce, he said.
