ISLAMABAD: Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai has warned that merger of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would not be allowed against tribesmen’s wishes.
Addressing a public gathering here at the Convention Center, he said that no area could be merged with a province without seeking its people’s permission.
The meeting apparently held in response to a sit-in by parliamentarians and Fata residents demanding the merger of Fata with KP that was held on October 9.
The sit-in was called off after PM Shahid Khaqan negotiated with the protesters assuring them that their demands would be considered.
PkMAP along with Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazal are the main opposing parties against the KP-Fata merger. Leaders of both parties were of the view that referendum should be held before deciding future of the tribal areas.
