KP food authority discards contaminated milk

PESHAWAR: Several hundred litres of contaminated milk was recovered by the district administration and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Hilal food Authority during raids in the various parts of the city on Wednesday.

The officials said that they’ve conducted raids on public complaints.

The district administration has said that they have discarded 300 litres injurious milk on Kohat road area of the city. The officials added that five persons were also arrested during crackdown and cases have been registered against them under relevant sections of law.

While providing details of the raids, the officials said that the district administration along with the officers of Livestock Department established check posts at Zangali, on Kohat road and at Jhagra on GT Road and checked the milk supplied to the provincial capital.  Samples were tested in the presence of Assistant Commissioner, Peshawar Sara Rehman, Additional Assistant Commissioner Shahbaz Khattak and official of livestock department Jamal and Additional Assistant Commissioner Abdul Wali and Veterinary Supervisor, Naeemul Hassan.

During the test, the ratio of water in the samples of five milkmen were found in excess while a dead fly was also found in one sample. The officers of the district administration expressed anguish over the matter and discarded the 300-litre injurious milk and arrested five milkmen.

In the meanwhile, AAC Shahbaz Khattak conducted more raids in Bhana Mari area and conducted the test of samples and on proving adulteration of water took the container into possession and sealed the shop.

In another crackdown in the city, KP food safety authority recovered 500 litres of the substandard milk which also include 30 kilograms dried milk. The officials said that the milk was being supplied to ice-cream shops of the city. The officials added that on the raid was made on a house on the complaints of the public in Pir Mohallah Gulab Shah, near KohatiGate.  KP Hilal Food Authority officials said that cases have been registered against the accused and they were handed over to police.
