PESHAWAR: To provide timely relief to the complainants, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Commission (KPIC) has directed the Public Information Officer (PIO) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety & Halal Food Authority (HFA) to provide descriptive merit lists and other documents of the candidates to the citizens who seek it so as to meet the objective of transparency and the criteria prescribed in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ESTA Code for recruitments of the public servants.

Hearing a number of complaints against the Halal Food Authority, the KPIC decided that provision of the descriptive marks sheet for various posts of is not covered under the section 19 of the KPRTI Act 2013 i.e. not fall in the exempt category of information. It will ensure transparency, merit based appointments in government institutions besides enhancing public trust in the government institutions.

Deciding a complaint in 14 numbers of complaints against the Public Information Officer/PSO to Director General Halal Food Authority Awais Ali submitted to the Commission. The record was examined and observed that the merit list may be provided to the KPIC and complainants which meets the objective and criteria prescribed in the ESTA Code for the recruitments of government servants. The Commission in its decision paid a visit to the Halal Food Authority to see the process of recruitment in HFA and ensure compliance of the provision of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ESTA Code.

On the directives of the Chief Information Commissioner, Sajid Khan Jadoon, a delegation of the Commission led by Riaz Khan Daudzai, Information Commissioner, paid a visit to the Halal Food Authority in pursuant to provision of Section 26 2 (C&D) of the RTI Act 2013 to inspect record in various complaints submitted by citizens to the Commission. Under the Section 26(2) (C) of the KP RTI Act 2013, the Commission have the powers of Civil Court to inspect the premises of the public bodies and can examine and inspect the record.

The Commission says it is strongly committed to enable the citizens to have access to information of public importance and helping in building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.
