PESHAWAR, 5 November: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak has approved an additional amount of Rs75 million for the polio eradication campaign in the province.

According to a statement issued from the Chief Minister House on Wednesday, decision to this effect was taken during a meeting of the Provincial Task Force for the Eradication of Polio at the Chief Minister Secretariat. KP Health Minister Shahram Khan Tarakai, Inspector General Police Nasir Durrani, World Health Organisation (WHO) representatives and other officials attended the meeting.

The chief minister issued directions to the concerned departments to conduct water tests in the polio affected areas and maintain computerised record of the vaccination campaigns. Mr Khattak was told during the meeting that polio cases have reduced in the province by 85 percent as compared to last year. The chief minister also directed the newly elected local government representatives to assist the vaccination teams and ensure provision of polio drops to every child in their respective areas.
