PESHAWAR, 2 December: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has rejected changes in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) route.

In this regard a meeting was headed by KP Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser on Tuesday which was attended by Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak, parliamentary leaders and opposition leaders.

Participants of the meeting said the promises made during the all parties conference of 28 May by the federal government regarding completing the western portion of the CPEC project should be fulfilled in letter and spirit. The meeting decided that the political leadership of KP will meet the officials of the National Highway Authority (NHA) within 10 days to persuade the federal government to fulfil its promises on the CPEC.

It was also decided that a resolution in this regard will be passed from the provincial assembly on Friday. The resolution will pinpoint reservations of the KP leadership about the CPEC project.

During the meeting, the chief minister threatened to stop cooperation from the KP government for the mega project until the reservations of the province were removed.
