PESHAWAR, 9 October: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to give Rs30,000 monthly stipend to 500 artists and singers who left their profession due to threats from militants and various other problems.

The KP Department of Culture in a meeting in Peshawar on Thursday set up a committee for registration of artists and singers. The meeting approve Rs150 million for the welfare of the artists. Various artists had earlier approached the Department of Culture for financial assistance.

These artists and singers had left their profession after attacks on artists in different parts of the province. They were currently facing many hardships due to lack of income source.

The names of experts of making music instruments will also be included in the list of beneficiaries of the scheme.
