PESHAWAR, 18 May: After giving autonomous status to hospitals in Peshawar and Abbottabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Shahram Khan Tarakai has announced to give autonomous status to teaching hospitals in Mardan, Bannu, Swat and Dera Ismail Khan.

Talking to media persons yesterday, the minister said boards of governors have also been appointed for three major hospitals of Peshawar and one hospital of Abbottabad. He said the boards of governors will soon start their work for running the financial and administrative affairs of hospitals.

Mr Tarakai said boards of governors for hospitals of Mardan, Bannu, Swat and Dera Ismail Khan will be appointed in the next phase. The minister said the KP government has formed a new law to end political interference in the hospitals and improve their performance. However, he said, the implementation process will take some time.
