KP Govt extends consumer courts’ jurisdiction to tribal districts

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has extended the jurisdiction of the consumer courts to the tribal districts of the province, said a notification issued by the KP government on Friday

The notification said that in pursuance of approval by Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court (PHC), jurisdictions of six consumers Protection courts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stands extended to the newly merged districts as a stopgap arrangement, until further orders.

Providing further details, the notification said that Consumer Protection Court, Peshawar’s Jurisdiction has been extended to district Khyber, Consumer Protection Court in Charsadda has has been extended to District  Mohmand, Consumer Protection Court, Malakand ‘s Jurisdiction has been extended to Bajaur, Consumer Protection Court,  Kohat’s Jurisdiction has been extended to districts Kurram  and Orakzai, Consumer Protection Court, Bannu’s jurisdiction has been  extended to North Waziristan and Consumer  Protection Court, Tank’s jurisdiction has been extended to district South Waziristan.

The provincial government has already extended regular courts to tribal districts in March which has started hearing cases. A total of 28 judges were deployed in makeshift courts in all districts and a total of 18 public prosecutors have been appointed with the 28 judges. All thousands of cases that were earlier pending before the political administrations have been shifted to the newly-installed civil courts.

The jurisdiction of the courts has been extended to the tribal districts under the wider plan of reforms. Under the main plan, judicial complexes will be built in the tribal districts and judges will hear cases there

Judiciary Service Tribunal Constituted

The Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has constituted Subordinate Judiciary Service Tribunal with Justice Lal Jan Khattak as its Chairman. Justice Musarrat Hilali, Justice Abdul Shakoor and Justice Ijaz Anwar would work as members of the tribunal. It was notified her by KP Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights Department here.
