PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has extended the health emergency for four months.

According to a notification of the KP Health Department, the health emergency has been extended till March 31, 2021 keeping in view the situation of coronavirus.

“In continuation of this Department’s notification dated June 01, 2020, I, Syed Imitiaz Hussain Shah, Secretary to Government of KP, Health Department, in exercise of powers conferred under Section 3 of KP Epidemic Conrol and Emergency Relief Act, 2020, on advice of the Director General Health Service and two eminent epidemiologists and with the approval of the chief minister hereby order the extension of Health Emergency in the whole of KP for a further period of four months with effect from 01-12-2020 till 31-03-2021 in best public interest,” says the notification.

In the beginning of this year when coronavirus was spreading rapidly, the Health Department of KP under the Public Health Act 2017 had imposed corona emergency. The secretary of Relief and Rehabilitation had announced emergency situation in the province at that time and timings of business centres were adjusted to stem the spread of coronavirus.

Latest corona situation

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recorded 313 more coronavirus cases and nine more deaths during the last 24 hours.

Official data shows that total infections in KP have risen to 47,190 and the number of deaths stands at 1,368.

Overall death toll in Pakistan has crosses 8,000. During the last 24 hours, Pakistan reported 40 additional deaths from coronavirus, taking the total to 8,025. The total death toll in Sindh stands at 2,924, Balochistan 166, Islamabad 314, Gilgit-Baltistan 97 and Azad Jammu and Kashmir 165. As many as 2,046 corona patients remain in critical condition.

Official data shows that 1,613 recoveries were from corona during the last 24 hours. For the sixth straight day, Pakistan is reporting more than 1,000 recoveries. Total recoveries stand at 341,423.

Peshawar is the most affected district from corona in KP, while it is also included among five cities that are contributing to 70 percent of the country’s cases. The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has been informed that Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi are contributing 70 percent to the spread of the coronavirus in the country.
