PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shaukat Ali Yousafzai on Wednesday said the provincial government was prepared for holding elections in the tribal districts in April next year.

Talking to media persons after a meeting of the Apex Committee at the Governor House, Shaukat Yousafzai said the Apex Committee decided to hold elections in the tribal districts, abolition of Fata Secretariat and bringing all its directorates under the provincial departments,creating 33,000 jobs in the tribal districts and increasing the salaries of the Levies and Khassadar personnel by 12,000 to 18,000. He said delimitation of constituencies in erstwhile Fata will be completed by the end of January. He said the draft for local bodies polls in the tribal districts has also been finalised which will be presented in the Assembly soon.

KP Governor Shah Farman, Chief Minister Mahmood Khan,Corps Commander Peshawar Lieutenant General Mazhar Shaheen Mehmood, Inspector General Frontier Corps Major General Abid Latif, Commandant Frontier Constabulary Moazzam Jah Ansari, Chief Secretary Kamran Naveed Baloch,Inspector General of Police Salahuddin Mahsud and other officials attended the meeting.

The minister said in his briefing that the Apex Committee also decided to revive the arms manufacturing factories in Darra Adamkhel. He said a special quota for youths in the employment would be reserved in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.

Shaukat Yousafzai said that Jirga system and dispute resolution councils (DRCs) would be made effective in the tribal districts.

He said the budget of the merged tribal districts would be presented in the KP Assembly. He said shortage of staff in the educational institutions will be removed and playground will also be established.
